Soldiers on the field have to stay warm so they can be alert and so their body can fully function.  Because of this, they need the warmest blankets around.  Despite recent technological innovations in textiles, the leading material in terms of warmth level continues to be wool.  Military soldiers knew this back during World War I and II, and they know it today.
