The last article on gun accessories addressed grips and cleaning kits. Now we look to storing your gun. Anyone who owns a gun needs a safe place to keep it. It can’t be lying out in the open where someone who doesn’t know how to use it can get to it. It also needs to be protected from collecting dust.
Gun cases come in all shapes and sizes, naturally, to fit the specifications of the gun they are designed for. If you’re looking for a case, the first thing you need to decide is if you want a hard case or a soft case. A hard case is generally made of plastic or metal and it provides greater protection for your gun. The downside is it will probably be more expensive than a soft case. A soft case is is made from a combination of sturdy materials, usually one of which is Cordura nylon.
Gun cases usually have pockets and compartments that fit gun accessories, such as ammo, cleaning kits, and other miscellaneous items. The carrying strap or handle style will depend on the size and design of the gun case.
You want to make sure to get the case that fits the gun you have. Many cases are classified based on the size of the gun that will fit inside them. Impact Guns has a great selection of cases that fit various models. Blackhawk makes a whole line of soft cases that range in size from 16 inches to 40 inches. Here’s one that fits an M16. This may seem comical, but there’s actually a gun case made for a Tommy Gun that’s shaped like a violin case. You can get one here.
